The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs will host a Director’s Seminar with Pascal Lamy, former General Director for the World Trade Organization, in the Belfer Center Library (L369).
In a recent op-ed, Mr. Lamy commented on the recent competing values of emerging economies, βIn 2014 and beyond, all parties must recognize that, in a multipolar world, an international trading system based on an updated set of rules is the least risky means of pursuing their growth objectives.β Live Mint
From September 2005 to August 2013, Pascal Lamy served for two consecutive terms as General Director of the World Trade Organization (WTO). A committed European and member of the French Socialist party, he was Chief of Staff for the President of the European Commission, Jacques Delors, from 1985 to 1994. He then joined the Credit Lyonnais as CEO until 1999, before returning to Brussels as European Trade Commissioner until 2004.
He currently dedicates his activities to the think tank Notre Europe β Jacques Delors Institute, serves as President of the World Committee on Tourism Ethics, the President of the Oxford Martin School Commission for Future Generations, the Vice – President of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), and participates in the Global Ocean Commission and UNAIDS, as well as different subjects related to international affairs. He is also President of the Board of Directors of the Musiciens du Louvre of Grenoble MDLG (Orchestra of Marc Minkowski) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company.
