On Thursday March 8, as part of a celebration of International Women’s Day 2007 and in recognition of the upcoming halfway point in the timeline for achieving the Millennium Development Goals, UNDP Administrator Kemal Dervis reaffirmed the Program’s commitment to “ending impunity for violence against women and girls.” Dervis mentioned specifically the UNDP’s activities in Sudan’s Darfur region, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mozambique and Nicaragua and its participation in the UN Action against Sexual Violence in Crisis, an initiative involving ten UN bodies designed to provide support to women victims of violence in crisis situations.
