Both the UN and the African Union Commission have welcomed the agreement signed by President Gbagbo of the Republic of Cote D’Ivoire and Guillaume Soro, Secretary General of the Forces Nouvelles. The March 4 agreement concludes their dialogue on the Ivorian peace process. It builds upon UN Security Council Resolution 1721 and, among other provisions, it calls for the establishment of a Permanent Negotiations Committee (CPC). It is hoped that the agreement will open the way for decisive progress in the peace process. President Compaore of Burkina Faso was especially commended for facilitating the agreement.
