Following the shooting deaths of two Jordanian United Nations peacekeepers in Haiti on November 10th, Ambassador Jorge Voto-Bernales of Peru, the Security Council President for November, read a statement earlier this week articulating the council’s continuing commitment to the U.N. Mission of Stabilization in that country. With municipal and local elections forthcoming on December 3rd, the Security Council announced its expectations for a peaceful election as well as its hope for ongoing progress in the security and human rights situation in Haiti.
